Salary listed is for 2025-26; 2026-27 stipend amounts are to be determined.CLASSIFICATION: ClassifiedTITLE: Athletic CoachREPORTS TO: Athletic DirectorPOSITION SUMMARYTo plan organize and implement the teaching of fundamentals strategies rules and proper condition in the assigned sport designed to meet the needs and interest of student athletes. To provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academic achievement as well as competitiveness. To demonstrate a high degree of ethics professionalism human relations and be a positive role model for all students.Applicants are encouraged to review Board Policy and Procedures 4295 to understand the Districts philosophy and direction for its interscholastic activities.Candidates for coaching positions are screened and interviewed by the high school assistant principal in charge of athletics and/or principal. To apply for a coaching job candidates submit a completed application and a letter of interest to the Personnel Department.QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Education and ExperiencePrevious coaching experience in the assigned sport and at the same levelPrevious teaching experience at the same level as the assigned sportSpecial RequirementsValid First Aid/CPR card prior to assuming any coaching responsibilitiesSuccessful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint clearanceI-9 employment eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control ActHIV/HBV training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)Human Resources new hire training (obtain within 60 days of hire date District provided)Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesRules and regulations governing the sport including WIAA guidelinesCurrent educational research and issues related to student athletesEffective coaching techniques for developing student athletesPOSITION RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership & Ethics:Teaching sportsmanship cooperation work ethic and responsibility to ones teamSupporting and enforcing the Districts rules/regulations and code of conduct for athletesMaintaining communications with the head coach including attending required coaches meetingComplying with Monroe High School rules District policies and WIAA League requirementsProgram Management:Assisting the head coach as directedAttending all team meetings practices and competitions as assignedSupervising and conducting practices and contests safely; supervising locker rooms and busesManaging uniforms equipment and school facilities in a responsible mannerAssisting with press box duties and side line activitiesEnsuring the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all timesMonitoring athletes school attendance grades and personal conductCoaching Skill:Instructing athletes in safety procedures and the need to report injuries immediately to the coachTeaching sports techniques rules strategies and playing tacticsAttending clinics/workshops related to the sportConditioning athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance strength and agilityResponding to player injuries with approved first aid techniques and referral to team trainerAdhere to federal and state laws and district regulations policies procedures and practicesMandatory reporter for incidents of child abuse harassment intimidation bullying boundary invasions fights substance abuse etc.Abide by employment provisions provided for in the collective bargaining agreementObserve strict confidentiality regarding student informationMaintain regular punctual attendancePHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTSThe work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions:Use of a personal computerUse of a telephone and other office equipmentAbility to perceive the nature of sound; near/far visual acuity depth perceptionAbility to communicate orally; manual dexterity to operate office machines gross and fine motor skillsExert 10 to 20 pounds of force on a frequent basisAbility to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objectsAbility to operate a motor vehicleReasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONSThis position is that of an assistant coach and is represented by Monroe Education Association collective bargaining unit. The position of head coach will work a schedule determined by the athletic season. Salary and benefits as determined by the current collective bargaining agreement.
