Software Engineer, Gemini Pretraining Codebase at DeepMind

The roleYou will join the team which is responsible for the codebase researchers use to train the latest Gemini models. The team focuses on ensuring that the codebase is reliable produces correct results and enables researchers to try new ideas as effortlessly as possible. We also collaborate with teams which own lower level libraries or the infrastructure required to train very large language models.Key responsibilitiesAs a software engineer in the team the work consists of a mix ofLong term projects to enable new research which involve multiple team members and require mature software engineering implementation and design skills.Fast paced reactive work to fix breakages affecting workflows or to implement new features on a compressed timeline for time sensitive projects.Providing support and answering researchers technical questions. This requires both a deep understanding of the codebase and a broad understanding of the entire tech stack the model architecture and data pipeline.Developing the right balance between good engineering practices and having a flexible codebase which researchers find easy to use and extend.About usArtificial Intelligence could be one of humanitys most useful inventions.
