This role plays a crucial part in designing implementing and validating robust scalable and high-performance software solutions for Android devices. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams provide leadership on technical initiatives mentor junior engineers and support both software engineering and quality assurance effortsespecially for Android environments requiring multidevice support and peripheral configuration and setup.What Youll DoDesign develop and implement complex Android software solutions using Kotlin ensuring high quality scalability and performance.Contribute to system architecture and design decisions for Android apps supporting short-term goals and long-term growth.Providetechnical guidance for both development and QA initiatives. Take ownership of complex projects and ensuretimelydelivery of high-quality code and solutions.Establish and enforce best practices for software design coding testing and deployment. Perform regular code reviews tomaintaincodebase standards.Create manage and execute detailed test cases and test plans for Android apps covering functionality performance and device compatibility.Support and execute testing across multiple Android devices including setup debugging and troubleshooting with various peripherals (e.g. sensorsWi-FiBluetooth USB).Collaborate closely with product owners designers and other stakeholders to ensure features meet business and user requirements.Identifyperformance bottlenecks and implement optimizations for Android apps.Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth.Participate in all phases of the development lifecycle including sprint planning daily standups retrospectives and release planning.Provideexpertisein debugging complex issues (preproduction and production) including device and peripheral-specific problems and implement effective solutions.Stay current with the latest technologies and trends in Android development and QA.Propose innovativesolutionsthat align with business goals and improve system efficiency and product quality.Ensureall software and QA processes are thoroughly documented (code comments technicaldocs test plans test cases).Perform related duties as assigned to support teamobjectivesand organizational priorities.What Youll BringDegree in Computer Science Software Engineering or a related field or equivalent industry experience and training.4-7 years of combined software development and quality assurance experience.At least 3 years of professional experience developing for Android devicesExtensive experience in Kotlin for Android developmentHands-on QA experience including Test Plan Creation and Test Case ManagementExperience supporting testing on multiple Android devices including support for USB devices and Wi-Fi directStrong debugging experience using information from logs Crashlytics and code debuggersFamiliarization with largescale systems monolith architecture distributed systemsmicroservicesarchitectures and implementing design patterns that scale.Expertise withrelational and NoSQL databases (e.g. MySQL PostgreSQL MongoDB MS SQL Server) and a solid understanding of database design and optimization techniques.Experience with cloud platforms (AWS Azure) and knowledge of cloud-native architecture containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines infrastructure as code (Terraform Ansible) and DevOps best practices.Knowledge of unit testing integration testing and test-driven development (TDD). Experience with automated testing frameworks.Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments contributing tosprintsand delivering iterative software releases.Ability to guide and influence teams craft high-level technical proposals and be an active part of the engineering management process.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues quickly and effectively.Impress Us WithExperience with Android front-end frameworks andbuildingdynamic user interfaces.Experience designing or working with APIs API based architecture such as microservices and API Management tools.Knowledge ofadditionalprogramming languages (e.g. C Java React Native)Experience in applying security best practices in software design coding and infrastructure.Proficiencyinidentifyingperformance bottlenecks andoptimizingAndroid apps for high performance and scalability.Experience with leveraging AI tooling in development workflows.This position requires security clearances due to the nature of our work with public safety agencies.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada and must successfully obtain andmaintaina Reliability security clearance from the Government of Canada.
