Scientific models (e.g. AlphaFold) predict structures assess properties and even generate new ideas acting as a design partner as scientists design life-saving therapeutics and other molecules. As an engineer on the team youll build these models into Benchling end-to-end from experimenting with the latest models to designing our inference architecture to shipping intuitive interfaces within our scientific early days for scientific AI models both at Benchling and in the industry at large. Well rapidly iterate with customers and change directions quickly figuring out new patterns for how we develop and go to market. Well win if we stay curious and obsess over our customers.RESPONSIBILITIESImplement new scientific models end-to-end from experimenting with new models to integrating them into our infrastructure and user-facing products.Engineer across the stack from building scalable inference services to creating intuitive interfaces that bring predictions directly into scientific workflows.Work directly with customers to ideate use cases gather feedback and onboard scientific teams.Shape how we build AI at Benchling driving experimentation contributing to technical direction and helping evolve our engineering and product development practices as the field maturesQUALIFICATIONS3 years of professional software engineering experience building and maintaining production systems.Experience across the stack comfort working with backend systems (Python or similar languages) and ideally also modern frontend frameworks (React or equivalent).Strong product and technical skills with the ability to design efficient scalable systems while iterating quickly based on user feedback and data.Collaborative mindset able to work closely with engineers product managers and scientists to bring new ideas to life.Desire to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift and rapid experimentation is encouraged.Interest in learning about biotechnology or ideally prior experience working with scientific AI models.HOW WE WORKThis is an in-person team in San Francisco built around collaborating in the office in a fast-paced environment. Were in the office Monday through Friday.SALARY RANGEBenchling takes a market-based approach to pay. The candidates starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills experience qualifications interview performance and work location. For this role the base salary range is$165113 to$223 388.
