Job Description
The Sonographer II is responsible for the independent operation of diagnostic medical equipment to assess and diagnose various OBGYN/MFM conditions and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OBGYN to high-risk obstetrical scans and include (but are not limited to) nuchal translucency fetal anatomy survey Doppler studies biophysical profile and endovaginal scans. Will work in a progressive busy office and will scan outpatients and inpatients providing comprehensive collaboration with Maternal Fetal Medicine providers Registered Nurses and OB/GYN Providers. Provides clinical services according to specialized maternal fetal ultrasound practice standards to detect fetal anomalies and acts as a resource to students nurses fellows and other technologists to ensure the safety of patients. The sonographer is responsible for the daily operations of the sonographic laboratory patient schedule equipment maintenance the report of equipment failures and quality assessment (QA). Must be able to work independently and have a thorough knowledge of high-risk situations. (Depending on Position)3% 401K Contribution even if you do not contribute!Medical Dental and Vision benefits that start the first of the month following your start date!And more!MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESVerify patient identification review intake and patient history for information pertinent to scheduled exam. Gathers relevant information from the patient by asking questions and reviewing their medical records regarding the patients health status and medical history.Explains the examination procedure to the patient and responds to patient questions and concerns. Refers specific diagnostic treatment or prognosis questions to the patients physicians and consult appropriate medical personnel when necessary to optimize examination results.Performs indicated high risk associated with OB ultrasound exams. Evaluate sonograms to identify or rule-out patient/fetus anomalies.Works in partnership with the other healthcare professionals to provide the best care possible for all patients always maintaining an attitude of service and excellence.Generate ultrasound reports and documents diagnostic and patient data in the appropriate record according to established policies and procedures.Records diagnostic images and data for use by the interpreting physician in rendering a diagnosis and for archival purposes.Administers sound patient care practices according to hospital and department policies and procedures to ensure the safety of patients. Demonstrates safety for patients staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines to ensure the safety of patients and staff.Performs equipment quality assessment procedures as required to determine that equipment operates at an acceptable performance level.Seeks to ensure that the work site exam rooms and work areas are in a neat and safe condition to ensure the safety of patients and staff.Participates in continuing education activities through professional societies and organizations to enhance knowledge skills and performance.Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent department operations.Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.EXPERIENCE EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONSMinimum of three (3) years of experience as a Sonographer and/or Ultrasound Tech required preferably in MFMDegree or Certification from an accredited Sonography program requiredARDMS Certification in Obstetrics (OB) requiredFetal Nuchal Translucency and Nasal Bone Certification (FMF NT) requiredCervical Assessment Certification (CLEAR or from FMF) requiredFetal Echocardiography (FE) Certification requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification preferredKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of medical practices terminology and reimbursement policiesKnowledge of and ability to use electronic medical records system; Epic preferredDemonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and Google Suite (Gmail Docs etc)Strong critical thinking problem solving and interpersonal skillsStrong planning and organizational skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsMust be able to type 40 wpm and operate computers and general office equipmentMust be able to work independently with minimal supervisionMust be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environmentMust be able to maintain confidentialityMust be able to pay close attention to detailsMust be able to read interpret and apply policies and proceduresPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMay include standing sitting and/or walking for extended periodsMay include performing repetitive tasksMay include working on a special schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends)May include working with challenging patients and clientsMay include lifting up to 25 poundsUNLV Health will provide equal opportunity employment to all employees and applicants for employment.
