Job Description
POSITION: Special Education Administrator QUALIFICATIONS: Massachusetts teacher certification in Moderate to Severe Disabilities or related fieldMasters Degree in related fieldSpecial Education Administrator license or Supervisor/Director license in related fieldREPORTS TO: Building Principal andDirector of Pupil Personnel Services JOB GOAL: Oversees and monitors special education compliance and practices in meetingstate and federal regulations and timelines for the assigned building/s. Assists indeveloping effective inclusion supports and instructional strategies through staffevaluation and professional development activities. Perform a variety ofadministrative tasks related to policy implementation compliance with legalregulations and maintaining educational standards. As an administrator provideleadership and utilize decision-making skills to supervise the implementation ofMTSS system instructional programs and offerings for the school/district.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:1. Coordinates services with in-school personnel state agencies earlyintervention services building principals parents etc. while adhering tostate and federal guidelines.2. Coordinates and facilitates re-evaluations initials additional testing orextended evaluation meetings to assure that students with disabilities areeducated in the Least Restrictive Environment with access to the generaleducation curriculum.3. Acts as decision maker if the IEP Team is split between options andproposals.4. Aids in tracking scheduling and facilitating manifestation determinationmeetings and coordinating the FBA/BIP process with related servicesother building administrators and staff.5. Acts as Out of District Liaison to assigned cases and tracks studentsincluding homeschool parochial private and collaborative cases to assurecompliance with review meetings and re-evaluation timelines.6. Tracks and coordinates building and district data for students withdisabilities: in-district IEP meetings (Includes reviews re-evaluationsreconvenes and initials) state indicators related services and annualDESE reporting requirements.7. Proofreads IEPs assures that services agreed to in Team meetings aretransferred correctly to the IEP during the proposal process andapproves/signs off as administrator on all IEPS for assigned building.2 of 2 5/21.8. Acts as a designated person in the Team meeting to commit resources forcontractual direct services to the student equipment and placementdecisions recommended by the Team when appropriate. Includes thebuilding principal or designee in discussions when services involving staffchanges or additional staffing services at the building level arerecommended by the Team.9. Provides school personnel with professional learning and updates to legalrequirements relative to school district special education services andprograms.10. Recommends policies programs and procedures essential to the needs ofstudents with disabilities and in compliance with district policies IDEA andstate regulations.11. Advises staff and administrators of legal requirements governing specialeducation and other federal programs as may be assigned.12. Develops directs and administers training in the due process proceduresas related to the identification and placement of students.13. Assists in developing and coordinating special education services withbuilding administration.14. Oversees student transition planning across buildings/district.15. Collaborates with administration on MTSS system curriculum instructionand social emotional supports for all students.16. Work with building administration to reinforce the correct state federaland district processes when out of compliance with practices andregulations and is responsible for reporting issues that are out ofcompliance to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services.17. Prepares local state and federal reports as may be required18. Responsible for developing and implementing screening programs forcontinuous identification of students referred for special education.(Student Support Teams)19. Assists Principal with budget recommendations20. Oversees scheduling and case assignments for all related serviceproviders in building.21. Participates with building administrators in the recruitment selectionassignment and evaluation of all special education personnel andrecommends continued employment or non-renewal of all specialeducation professional and support staff personnel.22. Hires supervises and completes formative/summative evaluations forassigned teachers and related service providers.23. Participates in special education department meetings buildingadministrative meetings district administration council meetings MTSSmeetings and other meetings as deemed necessary.24. Maintains ethical work practices and confidentiality.OTHER DUTIES:Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs and other professional activities.Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Building Principal Director of Pupil Personnel Services or designated administratorTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As stated in contractSALARY AND BENEFITS: Individual Contract.
