JOB DESCRIPTION

A small, student-centered charter school in Phoenix is seeking an experienced and dedicated Special Education Director to lead and oversee our special education program.


Position Overview:
We are looking for a knowledgeable and highly organized leader who is passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs while ensuring full compliance with all state and federal special education laws. The ideal candidate will oversee program implementation, support staff, service a small caseload, and ensure that all services are delivered effectively and ethically.


Key Responsibilities:
Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local special education laws and regulations (IDEA, ADA, Section 504)
Oversee development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Maintain accurate and timely documentation to ensure audit readiness and legal compliance
Lead and support SPED staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and service providers
Provide training and guidance to staff on compliance, best practices, and legal requirements
Collaborate with general education staff, administration, and families to ensure student success
Monitor student progress and program effectiveness across the SPED department
Coordinate evaluations, eligibility determinations, and IEP meetings
Serve as the primary point of contact for compliance-related matters, including state reporting and audits
Foster an inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environment across the school


Qualifications:
Valid Arizona Special Education certification
Prior leadership or administrative experience in special education strongly preferred
Extensive knowledge of special education law, including IDEA, ADA, and Section 504
Demonstrated experience ensuring compliance and managing SPED documentation and processes
Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills with staff, families, and external stakeholders
Commitment to individualized student support



Qualifications: Valid Arizona Special Education certification Prior leadership or administrative experience in special education strongly preferred Extensive knowledge of special education law, including IDEA, ADA, and Section 504 Demonstrated experience ensuring compliance and managing SPED documentation and processes Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills with staff, families, and external stakeholders Commitment to individualized student support
