Position Type:Student Support Services/Special Education TeacherDate Posted:12/1/2024Location:All levelsDate Available:TBA Closing Date: Until FilledVACANCIES: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS - Long-term Substitutes LOCATIONS: Elementary Schools and High School REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Student Services EFFECTIVE: August 22 2024 REQUIREMENT: Must hold at least one of these Connecticut teaching certificates: Comprehensive Special Education K12 (#165) Comprehensive Special Education PK12 (#065) Comprehensive Special Education 112 (#265) (not for elementary) GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assess students knowledge and skills to determine their strengths and needs Adapt and collaborate with teachers to adapt lessons to meet the needs of special education students Help develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) which outline the services and accommodations each student will receive Develop transition plans that outline services to help students as they graduate or move to a new school Ensure that students are receiving the services outlined in their IEPs Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students progress and goals Meet with parents teachers counselors and administrators to discuss students progress Work with paraprofessionals to ensure that they have the skills and information necessary to work with special education students Ensure that schools comply with requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Such other related duties as assigned TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Contract between the Darien Board of Education and the DarienEducation Association APPLICATION PROCESS: Internal candidates (current employees of the Darien Public Schools) must submit an internal application via Applitrack including a current resume and cover letter addressed to Marjorie Cion Director of Human Resources.
