Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: Salaried Job Summary:Old Dominion Firestopping, Inc. provides complete firestopping solutions to restore the fire rating required for through penetrations and joint applications. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Takeoff Engineer to join our growing team. This position is ideal for entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic or experienced estimators looking to advance their careers in the construction industry.The Takeoff Engineer plays a key role in preparing accurate project budgets, assisting with bids, and ensuring our team is well-prepared throughout the preconstruction phase. This role offers hands-on experience, mentorship from industry professionals, and a clear path for career development within a company that values safety, precision, and growth.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Attend site visits, pre-bid walkthroughs and other pre-project meetingsCompile all documents needed to generate a bidHelp collect additional information from customers and/or vendors as needed to assist estimators with identifying factors affecting costs, such as production time, materials, and labor; and incorporate quantities and pricing into the project budgetOrganize, review, and prepare job files, identifying clear scopes of work and any potential risk factorsAssist with generating construction budget by studying plans, completing quality takeoffs, and evaluating updated plans for changesDouble-check estimatesAssist with presenting and explaining project budgets to customers, operations team, and othersMonitor customer and project deadlines and communicate any changes or issues to the teamAssist with identifying and tracking leads, proposals, and bidsOversee work progress, review and update logs, and communicate potential issues and challenges to estimators and other team membersIdentify and resolve deviations from the proposal, including scope and specifications, throughout the entire course of the projectWrite up technical reports, purchase orders, project updates, and proposalsMinimum Qualifications:A HS diploma or equivalent; or a combination of equivalent training, education and relevant work experience; two-year degree preferred.Prior construction industry and safety experience preferredExcellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skillsReliable and punctualMust have a reliable transportation and available to work extended hours, as neededAbility to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage time and priorities effectivelyStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to think critically and work independentlyDemonstrated customer service skillsMust be an effective team player with a positive attitudeVery proficient using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)Ability to interact with employees at all levels, supervisors, vendors, and other stakeholders in a positive, constructive mannerPreferred - Bilingual in Spanish and EnglishPhysical Requirementsinclude but are not limited to the following:Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat and climbAble to travel to jobsites, meetings, and other destinations as neededAble to see, talk and hear in person, via phone and/or through online/videoAble to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for use of a keyboard and phone.Able to lift & carry items up to 15 lbs.Note: Offers will be made based on candidates' qualifications relevant to the position.
