Specimen Grossing Technician at Pride Health

Join Pride Health as a Grossing Technician at Hays, KS! This is a 4+ months contract role (with high possibility of extension or conversion) offering a great opportunity for experience to excel in a dynamic environment.

Role: Grossing Technician

Location: Hays, KS 67601

Shift Schedule: Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (Central Time)

Hours per Week: 40 hours

Start Date: ASAP

Pay Highlights: $25-43/hour (Based on 3 to 10+ years of experience)

Compensation is based on directly related grossing experience:

• Approximately 3 years of experience: Starting around $26.43/hour
• Up to 10 years of experience with complex specimen grossing: Up to $43.61/hour

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and non-routine gross examination and preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing.
• Ensure accurate specimen accessioning, labeling, and patient identification.
• Describe gross anatomical features of routine surgical specimens, including lesions, sutures, and specimen markings.
• Measure, weigh, and document specimen characteristics and abnormal findings.
• Dissect surgical specimens and prepare tissues for histologic processing.
• Escalate complex or non-routine specimens to Pathologist Assistants as appropriate.
• Complete all required documentation and maintain accurate records.
• Collaborate directly with pathologists regarding specimen grossing and dissection activities.
• Identify and report issues that may impact test performance or result accuracy.
• Maintain compliance with all laboratory, safety, quality assurance, CLIA, CAP, and regulatory standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree (A.A., A.S., B.A., or B.S.) or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience:

• 3 months to 1 year of Histology and/or Surgical Grossing experience preferred.
• Meets qualifications outlined in CLIA regulations and Quest Diagnostics’ personnel requirements for tissue gross examinations.
• Knowledge of surgical pathology specimen handling and processing.

Note: Local candidates within 30 miles are eligible.
