Job Description

 

Primary Purpose

Provide speech, language, and hearing services to students receiving special education services within the district.


Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology with appropriate licensure as a Speech Therapist, or

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field

  • Valid Texas licensure

  • Current ASHA certification (Clinical Fellows must obtain certification within one year of CFY completion)

  • Valid driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written


Major Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Conduct speech and language assessments in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to identify students with communication disorders using evidence-based practices.

  2. Determine language dominance and language proficiency for referred students.

  3. Complete comprehensive initial and re-evaluations, interpret assessment data, and prepare accurate reports within federally required timelines.

  4. Conduct home visits, when appropriate, to collaborate with families during the evaluation process.

  5. Collaborate with outside professionals and agencies (e.g., physicians, private therapists, social services, private schools, vocational rehabilitation) to gather relevant evaluation information.

  6. Submit evaluation documentation and therapy progress notes for reimbursement and compliance purposes.

  7. Provide speech-language therapy aligned to IEP goals, addressing areas such as articulation, receptive and expressive language, fluency, voice, and dysphagia.

  8. Monitor student progress and adjust intervention strategies as needed.

  9. Stay current with research and best practices in speech-language intervention for children and adolescents.

  10. Recommend and support the use of assistive and augmentative communication (AAC) when appropriate.

  11. Provide consultation and professional development for staff and families to support communication goals.

  12. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings within state and federal timelines.

  13. Monitor academic and functional progress to determine the need for additional documentation, RTI support, or further evaluation.

  14. Supervise Speech-Language Pathology Assistants, Clinical Fellows, and interns as required by state regulations.

  15. Maintain licensure and certification through required continuing education (CEUs).

  16. Maintain inventory and care of therapy materials, including AAC devices.

  17. Follow all district safety procedures and policies.

  18. Support district goals and comply with all district policies and expectations.

  19. Maintain regular and reliable attendance to support continuity of services.
