Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.Job Description:Principal Responsibilities and Duties Develop, prepare and teach new Fashion Design coursework to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures in the Fashion Design classrooms at Highland Campus. Candidates with demonstrable skills, professional experience and ability to participate in the following areas are encouraged to apply Fashion Industry experience is preferredExperience using industry software similar to Adobe Illustrator and the Creative Cloud Suite is preferredTeaching experience is preferredStrong skills in Sketching and Illustration Strong skills in sewing construction techniques, pattern making and draping Participate actively in departmental responsibilities, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.Remain current in the Fashion Industry and the teaching profession through a variety of professional development activities.Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice president, vice president, executive vice president.Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.Current Work of the Department/DisciplineThe Fashion Design program offers students an Associate of Applied Science in Fashion Design in the Business Area of Study as well as a Level 1 Certificate. The program has a State of the Art Fashion Lab located at Highland Campus, that trains students to operate industrial equipment. The department is committed to the fostering of student knowledge, skills and training. Teamwork and professional development are required in the department.TechnologyDemonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom. Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)Principal Professional StandardsMeet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.Required EducationEducational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards.Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising, Design, Home Economics (with relevant concentration) or Marketing orAssociate degree in one of these and 3 years non-teaching work experienceSee Faculty Credentials at www.austincc.edu/facstaff/faculty-credentials.
