Role Description

ADI is seeking a Senior Principal Applications Engineer to serve as a technical leader within the High Performance Power Applications team. This role is based in Durham, NC and will act as the local technical authority while also serving as a global subject matter expert for ADI's buck, boost, buck boost, and LDO power portfolio.

This is a hands on, execution focused role and measured by complete, correct, consistent and timely deliverables. The successful candidate will accelerate customer design ins and design wins by removing technical barriers, providing system level guidance, and enabling both internal teams and customers to efficiently implement ADI power solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary technical escalation point for complex customer issues, advanced power architectures, and challenging application requirements
  • Serve as a global technical expert for ADI's buck, boost, buck boost, and LDO product portfolio
  • Provide system level power architecture guidance across applications ranging from nano power designs to high voltage, high power systems
  • Support key markets including data centers, automotive, industrial, instrumentation, aerospace, and defense, with a strong understanding of system intent and customer requirements
  • Drive customer design in and design win activities through hands on technical engagement, lab validation, and application guidance
  • Develop and review evaluation systems, application notes, schematics, layouts, and measurement methodologies
  • Identify competitive strengths, weaknesses, and system level gaps in ADI's power portfolio and propose actionable improvements
  • Deliver technical training to Sales, Field Applications Engineers, and distributors
  • Present technical solutions to customers with clarity and confidence, supporting both engineering and commercial objectives
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Product, Design, Marketing, and Systems teams to influence product direction and roadmap decisions


Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (PhD degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in power electronics, power management IC applications, or system level power design
  • Deep technical expertise in DC DC converters (buck, boost, buck boost) and LDO regulators
  • Strong system level understanding of power solutions across multiple end markets
  • Proven ability to solve complex customer problems and drive solutions to completion
  • Hands on laboratory experience with power validation, debugging, and performance characterization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage customers and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with practical execution to meet customer and business needs
  • Must be local to Durham, NC, with willingness to travel as needed


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high voltage DC or high power DC systems
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC considerations, thermal management, and power system reliability
  • Experience supporting instrumentation, industrial, automotive, aerospace, applications
  • Background in influencing product definition through customer and competitive insights
