Job Details
The Senior Defense Litigation Attorney is responsible for managing complex litigation matters from inception through resolution. This role involves developing case strategy, overseeing discovery, handling court appearances, and providing mentorship to junior attorneys. The ideal candidate has extensive courtroom experience, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record in defense litigation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a caseload of complex defense litigation matters (e.g., insurance defense, product liability, professional liability, or general civil litigation)
Develop and execute case strategies aligned with client objectives
Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
Handle all phases of discovery, including depositions, interrogatories, and document review
Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
Evaluate claims, assess risk, and provide strategic legal advice to clients and insurers
Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution proceedings
Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
Maintain strong client relationships and communicate case updates effectively
Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional standards
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction
7-12+ years of litigation experience, with a focus on defense work
Significant trial and courtroom experience preferred
Strong knowledge of civil procedure and rules of evidence
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills
Proven ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
Experience working with insurance carriers and claims professionals (preferred)
