Sr. Consultant, Accounting Policy

In this role, you will serve as a technical accounting expert, consulting on complex accounting issues, maintaining and interpreting accounting policies, and ensuring consistent application of accounting standards primarily for the Investments, Derivatives, and Treasury teams within Lincoln Financial. You will partner closely with management and internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, to assess the impact of new and emerging standards, resolve complex issues, and ensure accurate financial statement disclosures and compliance with regulatory requirements. You will also communicate key policy developments to leaders and proactively identify and mitigate accounting risks.

What you'll be doing:

  • Consulting on complex technical accounting matters, ensuring proper application of accounting standards, & working with internal and external (e.g. auditors) stakeholders to address & enforce policy compliance.
  • Maintaining accounting policies for assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on technical accounting policy and compliance issues.
  • Providing upfront assistance in deal structuring in order to achieve the desired accounting treatment.
  • Maintaining knowledge on current and emerging accounting standards, assessing the impact, and collaborating with management to ensure proper application of accounting standards.
  • Preparing and reviewing accounting policies for complex accounting transactions and ensuring compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles.
  • Overseeing and reviewing new disclosures (e.g. 10K and 10Q). Ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial statement footnotes.
  • Identifying complex accounting issues/concerns and recommending mitigation solutions to management.
  • Communicating new and emerging technical accounting policy developments for both US GAAP and Statutory accounting to managers and executives throughout Lincoln.
  • Identifying and resolving complex issues with internal and/or external auditors in a collaborative manner.

What we're looking for:

  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)
  • 57+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally including Big 4 public accounting, that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities of this position (Required)
  • Active CPA license (Required)
  • Experience in investment accounting is highly preferred, as is familiarity with treasury and/or derivatives accounting
  • Experience utilizing AI tools to assist in performing accounting research and documentation is preferred but not required

The pay range for this position is $96,900 - $176,200 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln's standard benefits package.
