Job Title: Sr Specialist Structural Mechanical Engineer (Space Systems Structures)Job Code: 31610Job Location: Fort Wayne INJob Schedule: 9/80 (Every other Friday off)Relocation: Relocation assistance is available to qualified applicantsJob Description: This role will support the design and development of space borne precision optics test fixtures and optical alignment systems for IR payloads. Includes completing mechanical systems analysis architecture definition Specification and ICD development with supporting trade studies. Job will include leading teams of engineers in accomplishing the above assignments.Essential Functions: Knowledge of both technical and project/team management for the mechanical aspects of IR payloadsMechanical systems leadership for IR payloads and test equipment from requirement allocations and flow downs to specification and interface definition and compliance verificationDetailed mechanical design skills of precision optical metering structures for IR payloads including flexures and mirror mounts alignment mechanisms and test/alignment fixtures for cryogenic optical applicationsCollaborate with Manufacturing and Procurement during the build and test of mechanismsLeadership of small to mid-sized cross-functional design teams for IR payloads and mechanical subsystemsStrong communication skills for internal and external presentations and reviewsAuthor PDRs CDRs and other required design reviewsPerform trade studies to determine optimal designsAssist with schedule cost and technical responsibility at the major subsystem levelComplete cost estimation for proposalsActs as primary interface to customers & upper managementProvide guidance and mentorship for other team members formally or informallyResponsible to direct and review the work of junior engineers and designers and technicians.Participate in risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies for complex projectsUp to 10% travel may be requiredQualifications: Bachelors Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related lieu of a degree minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Security ClearanceExperience in design and testing for space environments (i.e. temperature vacuum radiation etc.)3 years of experience in 3D CAD modeling using industry standard toolsExperience with GD&TPrior or current hands-on mechanical engineering experience to include integration and diagnosis of complex mechanisms and productsPreferred Additional Skills: Active Secret Clearance is preferredPTC Creo or Solidworks is strongly preferredNASA 5017 and ABMA Standards knowledgeGD&T tolerance stacksExperience with TribologyPrior COBRA or Orbis experiencePrior experience in developing aircraft structures or major sub-assemblies is strongly desiredExcellent people skills with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary diverse and dynamic team environmentExperience with team leadershipExcellent communication skills (written verbal & presentation)Prior electronics packaging experienceStrong hands-on capabilities to include design integration and alignment of IR optical systems.Design experience in spaceborne IR optical systemsRequired Experience:Senior IC Key Skills Mechanical Design,System Design,FEA,ASME Codes & Standards,CAD,Mechanical Knowledge,Creo,SolidWorks,Mechanical Engineering,Autocad,HVAC Design,Autodesk Inventor Employment Type : Full Time Experience: years Vacancy: 1
