JOB DESCRIPTION

Staff Accountant

Southport Truck Group is growing and looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This role plays a key part in supporting daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, reconciliations, vendor management, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

Work full-time in office, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Process and post invoices received through AP systems and email

Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies

Code and manage company credit card transactions

Prepare and coordinate check runs, ACH payments, and other disbursements

Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records

Track and research outstanding checks

Set up and maintain vendor accounts, including W-9s and credit applications

Manage vendor payment methods and maintain compliance documentation (COIs)

Assist with sales and use tax reporting, as applicable

Manage 1099 reporting and compliance

Handle unclaimed property reporting

Review and process employee expense reports

Assist with month-end closing and financial reporting as needed

Maintain organized records and a professional work environment

Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines

Support additional accounting functions as assigned

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred

2+ years of accounting or accounts payable experience preferred

Strong understanding of basic accounting principles

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Experience with accounting software and ERP systems is a plus

Strong organizational and time management skills

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Effective problem-solving and analytical skills

Ability to communicate professionally with vendors and internal teams

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Must be able to remain seated for extended periods and operate standard office equipment

Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required
