We are committed to supporting public education and developing future leaders who share our passion for improving schools and communities.OverviewThis position offers an excellent opportunity for an attorney interested in supporting Ohios public school districts on a range of education-related legal issues and working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The Staff Attorney will work under the guidance of experienced legal professionals to monitor and summarize new legal developments, provide timely and practical information to members, and apply skills in legal research, analysis, writing, and customer service within a nonprofit environment.Why This Role is DifferentAt OSBA, youll be part of a collaborative environment that values mentorship, continuous learning, and professional growth. This position offers the chance to build meaningful relationships with school district leaders and to make a real difference in the lives of Ohios students and educators.What You Will Learn and DoProvide timely and practical legal information to school board members and administrators on education and governance topics.Conduct legal research and draft articles and publications that inform and educate OSBA members.Assist in preparing and delivering presentations, webinars, and training sessions for members.Monitor and summarize new legal developments, legislation, and regulations impacting public education.Participate in OSBAs Legal Assistance Fund activities and support the legal hotline.Collaborate with cross-divisional teams to actively support OSBAs strategic and member-focused goals through the delivery of responsive, high-quality legal services.Prepare and review contracts, policies, and other legal documents.QualificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.Admission to the Ohio Bar, or ability to obtain admission within six months of hire.Valid drivers license.Ideal Candidate ProfileCommitment to public service and interest in legal issues affecting and supporting public education.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.Attention to detail and robust organizational skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online legal research tools.Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality and continuous professional development.Work EnvironmentHybrid work arrangements may be approved.Occasional evening and weekend work, including limited travel for conferences or trainings.Why Join OSBAYoull be part of a respected statewide organization where your work directly supports Ohios public education system.
