Headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, we thrive on building communities, building teams, building leaders, and growing the business throughout the Southeast region with offices in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama.About the RoleWere looking for a Staff Attorney that will work within the Risk Management team to review, draft, and provide feedback on construction contracts, consultant agreements, leases, and insurance-related matters for the self-perform divisions of the company. This role provides legal counsel to internal teams, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation strategies are implemented. The Staff Attorney reports directly to the Chief Legal Officer.Core ResponsibilitiesContract ManagementDraft and negotiate construction contracts, including lease agreements, prime contracts, purchase orders, access agreements, and subcontracts for the self-perform divisions.Establish and maintain scalable contracting processes and templates.Ensure all contracts meet legal and compliance standards.Prepare subcontract templates for projects to properly transfer risk to appropriate parties.Legal Counsel and DocumentationProvide legal counsel to self-perform division team members by analyzing their situation, defining their needs, and determining proper strategy and course of action, seeking guidance from the Chief Legal Officer when necessary.Prepare legal documents such as correspondence, liens, mediation binders, delay claims, document production responses, and claims on behalf of the company.Review legal documents from outside counsel and provide comments as needed.Risk and Claims SupportReview and make recommendations regarding risk (insurance, indemnity, and damages) of bid packages for self-perform divisions.Collaborate with the Loss Control team, insurance team, and IRC committee to resolve claims related to property damage, third-party claims, utility line strikes, equipment damage, and other construction-related matters.Attend risk meetings and maintain contractual, insurance, bonding, and risk-related action items.Make recommendations and support the overall strategy of the Risk Management team.Training and Program DevelopmentParticipate in program developments and provide proactive solutions to team members.Carry out legal duties in accordance with company policies.Prepare and present risk management training to the self-perform division when needed.Preferred QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.Admission to the Louisiana State Bar in good standing.Minimum of five (5+) years of experience in construction law, insurance law, contract law, or a related field; law firm experience preferred.Proficiency with common technological hardware and software.Core CompetenciesRNGD Values AlignmentExemplifies RNGDs core values:Renegade MentalitySweep FloorsBuild TogetherHonor PromisesStrategicApplies a systematic approach to managing contracts, risk, and compliance.Identifies legal and contractual efficiencies to improve processes.PrudentAccurately evaluates legal risks and anticipates potential challenges.Ensures contracts and legal processes adhere to realistic timelines and budgets.AnalyticalUses facts, legal precedent, and data to provide informed legal recommendations.Synthesizes information from multiple sources to achieve deep understanding.CollaborativeBuilds cooperative, trusting relationships with internal teams, leadership, and external counsel.Proactively makes oneself available to colleagues and creates opportunities for collaboration.CommunicativeClearly communicates complex legal issues in simple, actionable terms.Demonstrates strong listening and negotiation skills when working with team members and external stakeholders.RNGD is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
