Staff Automation Engineer

Advanced experience owning outcomes and decision making, solving ambiguous problems and influencing stakeholders; deep expertise in domain.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation/Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in technical program management and automation engineering.
  • Experience leading the specification, development, and implementation of automated manufacturing equipment, including robotics, precision motor control, dispense, and automated optical inspection (AOI) systems.
  • Experience working with design teams early in the hardware lifecycle to ensure design for automation principles are incorporated into product architectures.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Controls, Mechatronics Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience with high-volume, high-precision consumer electronics.
  • Experience in Return on Investment (ROI) methodology and managing headcount/capital expenditure rollups.
  • Experience in comprehensive automation vendor management from initial request for proposal (RFP) and functional specification through design reviews, acceptance testing (FAT/SAT), and factory deployment.
  • Familiarity with NX or other CAD tools, DOE, Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR), tolerance analysis, and statistical analysis.

In this rewarding role, your mission is twofold: to partner closely with design engineering to drive and guide early hardware design decisions and to collaborate effectively with manufacturing partners and equipment providers to develop robust, efficient, and cost-effective high-volume assembly processes. You will be heavily involved in the entire product development lifecyclefrom architecture selection to assembly process creation to final factory implementation and qualificationensuring we deliver industry-leading smartwatches to users worldwide.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $192000 - $279000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits
