Our goal is to empower advertisers with the most intelligent and insightful recommendations, ensuring maximum impact and effectiveness in their campaigns.As our Staff Machine Learning Engineer for Ads Growth , you will be responsible for designing and developing machine learning models, and performing data analyses to support Coupang’s fast business growth. You will need to drive the projects from end to end, communicate with stake holders, collaborate with other roles in the team, and provide ad hoc supports for our business partners.What You Will DoDesign and implement large-scale ML systems for search ranking, semantic retrieval, query understanding, and personalized product discovery using state-of-the-art techniques such as transformer-based models, contrastive learning and vector searchDrive innovation in search relevance and user intent modeling using large language models (LLMs), embedding-based retrieval, and multi-modal learningBuild and optimize ML pipelines using tools such as Apache Spark, Airflow, Kubeflow, and MLflow, ensuring reproducibility, scalability, and operational excellenceDefine and track key performance metrics to evaluate model impact and identify highleverage opportunities for improvementCollaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering and data science teams to align technical solutions with business goals and customer experienceMentor and grow engineering talent, fostering a culture of technical excellence, experimentation and continuous learningBasic QualificationsBachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics or closely related fields4 years of professional experience in applied machine learningExperience in machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modelingProficiency in Python and/or Java, with experience in building production grade ML systemsPreferred QualificationsMaster’s or PhD in relevant technical fieldsExperience with search systems, information retrieval or recommendation enginesExperience with LLMs, embeddings, and vector search technologiesExperience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform including services like Vertex AI, BigQuery or SageMakerExperience working in startup or high-growth environmentsProven ability to lead-cross-functional teams and deliver results in a multicultural, global organizationHands-on experience with modern ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikitlearn, Keras, XGBoost, LightGMB, and H2o.aiExperience with ML lifecycle tools such as MLflow, Kubeflow, Weights & Biases, or Amazon SageMakerExcellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersDemonstrated ability to work independently and manage ambiguity in fast-paced environmentsPay & BenefitsOur compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $297,000/year in our highest geographic market.
