Redwire / Loadpath has a current opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer (willing to consider all senior levels) to join our advanced design team located at our facility in Albuquerque, NM. We are a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team that innovates space mechanisms, multi-payload launch adapters, structural testing, deployable composite booms, high-strain composites, metallic structures, deployable space structures, R&D engineering, spacecraft thermal management components, and thermal analysis. Summary It is expected that you may not know all the answers at first, but that you are eager to find them! This includes a desire to learn new skills and concepts and apply your prowess to solve our customer's most difficult problems and invent new solutions. (If it were easy, they would do it themselves.) This is typically done by drawing on your fundamental understanding of the mechanical world and then exercising your artistic creativity to rearrange existing technology into novel applications and sometimes inventing entirely new technology. This position will focus on developing state-of-the-art structures and mechanisms for satellites, launch vehicles, and missile defense applications. Some examples include but are not limited to general spacecraft mechanisms, hold and release devices, solar array drive assemblies, deployable radar arrays, gimbals, multiple payload launch structures, deployable satellite antennas, rocket bodies fins and structures, ground support equipment, test equipment, and their supporting documentation. ResponsibilitiesReview and establish program requirementsFunctionally own specific mechanical systems and coordinate cross team interactions for those systemsDevelop and track schedules and meet deadlinesDevelop 3D mechanism designs primarily in SolidWorksCreate manufacturing drawings using GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5Create design review packages typically using Microsoft Power PointCreate and maintain requirements compliance matrixes in Microsoft Excell or JamaCreate assembly and build documentation in Microsoft WordIntelligently defend your designs to engineers and customersDirectly assemble prototype and flight hardware in a laboratory environmentAssemble sensors and operate test equipmentFollow internal Quality Assurance (QA) processes and procedures in compliance with AS9100 standardsProvide feedback and recommendations for improving our internal QA processes and proceduresInterface with customers, subcontractors, and manufacturersOperate in a dynamic, fast paced, and multidisciplinary environmentTake pride in courteous behavior and professional communicationIdeal ExperienceEducation: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, with 5 or more years of related work experience in Aerospace, Space, Energy, Semiconductor, Subsea, or other high reliability industriesExperienced with SolidWorksFamiliarity with materials and surface treatments for use in spaceExperienced with mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentalsSome limited travel may be requiredDesired SkillsMaster's degree in engineering preferredFamiliarity with NASA standards, range safety, and launch vehicle user guidesAbility to calculate the reliability of mechanical devicesHighly proficient with Solidworks (1000+ hours), Solidworks PDM a plusExperience with cradle-to-grave programsFinite Element Analysis experienceAbility to mass optimize a mechanical partKnowledge of Design For ManufacturingStructural testing experienceDesire to work ITAR programsMust have strong communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to obtain and hold a security clearance Grow with us as we innovate the next generation capabilities for a new era of space exploration!
