This position will tutor students in one or more STEM disciplines (first- and second-year mathematics, general physics, general Chemistry, and/or accounting) offered by the University and will assist students, faculty, and staff with all services provided by UNG tutoring centers.Responsibilities Tutor students in one or more STEM disciplines: first- and second-year mathematics, general physics, general Chemistry, and/or accountingWork on examples to illustrate appropriate use of conceptsEncourage students to use class notes and other resources to complete assignmentsDemonstrate the use of calculators, both graphing and non-graphing, and relevant software for the disciplineAssist in the general operation of the tutoring centerPerform other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, or Tutoring Lab Coordinator of Tutoring Services Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesCompetency of subject matter tutoredMust be proficient with Microsoft software and graphing calculatorsMust be friendly and personable and exhibit patience and empathy toward fellow studentsMust possess strong communication skillsAbility to help students by providing prompts and clearing up misconceptions.Ability to interpret word problems effectively to clarify core concepts.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.Ability to break down and explain component parts in a concise but clear mannerRequired Qualifications Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.STEM Peer Tutor ExperienceMust be currently enrolled at UNG with at least 6 credit-hoursA GPA of at least a 3.0A grade of A or B in the introductory sequence required for the major of the tutored subject (e.g., CHEM 1211/1212, PHYS 2211/2212, MATH 1111 and MATH 1113)A grade of A or B in higher-level courses preferred (e.g., MATH 1401, MATH 1450, CHEM 3441, etc.)Required Documents to Attach ResumeCover LetterFederal Work Study AwardUSG Core Values The University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning as well as the System Office.
