JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician to support surgical services by ensuring medical instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly cleaned, sterilized, assembled, and distributed for patient care procedures. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and efficient perioperative environment while adhering to infection prevention and sterilization standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment.
  • Prepare and distribute sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical and procedural areas.
  • Operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records and tracking documentation using computerized systems.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure proper storage of sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Perform quality assurance checks to verify instrument functionality and sterility.
  • Follow infection control policies, regulatory requirements, and departmental procedures.
  • Collaborate with operating room staff and other healthcare professionals to support patient care needs.
  • Assist with maintaining an organized and efficient sterile processing department.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and workflow demands within a fast-paced perioperative environment.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) certification or CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification.
  • Ability to safely lift and carry 25 pounds or more and perform physical duties associated with the role.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
  • Two years of sterile processing, central service, or related healthcare experience.
  • Experience handling and sterilizing surgical, medical, or dental instrumentation.
  • Experience in an acute care hospital setting.
  • Vocational certificate as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant (preferred)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with sterilization tracking systems and inventory management processes. (preferred)


Important Details:

  • 17-week contract position (extensions available)
  • Shift is 8 hours/day rotating shift, 40 hrs/week
  • Location is Rochester, MN 55905
  • Pay Range for Locals: $30 - $35 per hour
  • Pay Range for Travelers: $1,500 - $1,550 per week
