JOB DESCRIPTION

Job title: Central Sterile Tech

Job location: Brooklyn, NY 11212

Shift : 3P-11P M-F rotating weekends

Pay Rate : $20 - $24/hr without benefits

Length: 3 Months, Possible Extension

Education:

-High school diploma or equivalent required.

-Extended course work in sterilization techniques required.

Licenses, Certifications:

-Certification as a CRCST through IAHCSMM, or as a CSPDT through CBSPD.

Additional Details:

  • Inspect, decontaminate, disinfect, sterilize, and assemble reusable surgical/patient care instruments and equipment per prescribed procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Collect soiled instrumentation from various units and redistribute sterilized items.
  • Operate Sterrad (peracetic acid/gas plasma), pre-vacuum and gravity steam sterilizers, washer/disinfectors, scope washers, and ultrasonic cleaners per specifications.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization records and monitor cycle parameters (selection, pressure, time, temperature).
  • Perform and interpret biological and chemical monitoring tests per policy and AAMI standards.
  • Inspect sterilized packages/trays for damage or wet packs and take corrective action before transport.
  • Assemble instrument trays using current count sheets and appropriate sterilizer indicators; perform quality control checks.
  • Reprocess instruments per guidelines; operate washers/sterilizers, autoclaves, and sterile machines; decontaminate trays; clean sterilizers; maintain records; follow proper techniques for special instruments and scopes.
  • Promote a safe work environment using PPE and Universal Blood Borne Pathogen Precautions; maintain a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
