Position InformationUnder general supervision participate in the requisition receipt storage and delivery of a variety of medicaland/or non-medical equipment materials supplies tools and confidential and non confidential records;performs the duties required for the operation of a storeroom or warehouse including purchasing receivingtransporting load and unload a variety of materials and supplies stocking issuing shipping inventory controlassembling packaging and recordkeeping; performs other duties as required.This is the journey level classification in the Storekeeper series performing a variety of responsibilitiesincluding receiving and delivering packing and shipping and recordkeeping duties for a variety of medicaland/or non-medical equipment materials supplies tools and confidential and non-confidential records.This class is distinguished from the Senior Storekeeper in that the latter performs the duties at the lead leveldemonstrating greater initiative self-direction and independent judgment with less supervision than that of thepreceding level.This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used Department-wide to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time part-time or temporary basis.Examples of DutiesNothing in this specification restricts managements right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time. Receives and delivers a variety of medical and/or non-medical equipment materials supplies tools and confidential and non-confidential records; verify items received against packing lists and purchase orders; count or weigh the items; store items in prescribed areas bins racks shelves and floor or work site.Inspect incoming materials supplies tools and equipment; notify the proper personnel if adjustments are required.Performs inventory control duties utilizing a variety of automated systems; maintain associated recordkeeping requisition forms and/or database.Load and unload equipment and supplies; pack and ship materials supplies tools and equipment.Inventory stock as scheduled or required; operate a delivery vehicle to collect materials from and to make deliveries to County locations.Operates standard office machines such as personal computer printer copier calculator and fax machine.Keep stock area clean and in an orderly condition.Working knowledge of:Methods used in the receipt storage and issuance or delivery of a wide variety of medical and/or nonmedical itemsMethods of inventory records and maintenanceCommon units of weights and measuresBusiness arithmetic including percentages and decimalsSkill and Ability to:Estimate future supply requirementsKeep accurate records and inventory controlMaintain confidential files and confidentiality of privileged informationOperate office equipment such as personal computer printer copier and fax machineSafely operate motor vehicles including forkliftsUnderstand and carry out oral and written instructionsUse initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelinesEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of workPerform tasks which require physical strength and agility; lift and move heavy or bulky boxesLearn to operate and gain a working knowledge of forklifts and other materials handling equipmentMinimum QualificationsA combination of education training and experience equivalent to some experience as a stock clerk or warehouse worker or in a related capacity which would demonstrate possession of the knowledge and skills listed above.Supplemental InformationADDITIONAL INFORMATION:The ability to speak read and write Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position but is not required.Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven.The Department of Social Services will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.Monterey County like all employers is required to verify an employees right to work in the United States. Accordingly on the first day of employment employees must have and show those documents that verify their legal right to work in the United States. Examples of accepted documentation are a U.S. Passport or Alien Registration Card or a drivers license and Social Security Card or a drivers license and U.S. Birth Certificate.Additionally our agency requires a valid social security card in order to process employee paychecks. Accordingly on the first day of employment employees must have and show this document.Government agencies accessing US government information which includes federal tax information must ensure that background investigation requirements for all agency employees and contractors that have access to federal tax information are consistent with the IRS background investigation requirements for access to federal tax information. A background check may be required if the position requires access to these types of records. Background requirements consist of three components which include fingerprinting citizenship verification and local law enforcement checks.
