Senior Structural Engineer 2 Location:Birmingham AL Experience Level: Senior (20 Years) Contract- 3 Years Client- Southern Company Services Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer (Level 2) to provide advanced structural engineering services and field support for heavy industrial and power generation facilities. The ideal candidate will bring 20 years of industry experience or hold an accredited bachelors and masters degree in engineering with a Professional Engineering (PE) license. This role requires extensive knowledge of structural design principles hands-on project execution and the ability to lead large-scale multi-discipline engineering projects. Key Responsibilities Provide structural engineering services and field support for industrial and power generation projects. Prepare and review structural designs calculations and construction documents. Conduct site walkdowns and inspections to assess conditions ensure compliance and support field teams. Develop cost estimates material takeoffs and project schedules. Produce and check structural steel design calculations drawings and connection details. Ensure compliance with all applicable codes standards and OSHA safety regulations. Provide input on project staffing resource allocation and scheduling requirements. Perform structural inspections and generate clear detailed reports documenting findings. Coordinate with engineering construction and vendor teams to resolve technical issues and maintain design integrity. Contribute to project risk assessments value engineering reviews and design optimization initiatives. Qualifications Education: Bachelors and Masters degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. Professional Engineer (PE) License required or in active pursuit. Experience: 20 years of heavy industrial or power plant engineering experience. Proven track record in structural steel and concrete design for large-scale facilities. Technical Skills: Proficiency in or equivalent structural analysis software. Strong working knowledge of ASCE AISC ACI and OSHA standards and methodologies. Expertise in connection design material selection and construction support. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation tools. Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Strong communication leadership and interpersonal abilities. Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams. Preferred Attributes Prior experience supporting power generation petrochemical or heavy industrial construction projects. Familiarity with field inspection and fabrication processes. Demonstrated ability to lead junior engineers and review design deliverables.
