Georgia Southern University has been recognized by Forbes as one of "America's Best-In-State Employers" for 2025.Location Armstrong Campus - Savannah, GADepartment Information First and Second Year ExperienceJob Summary The Student Assistant will support the on the department of First and Second Experience as a Flight Leader on the Savannah Campus beginning Spring 2026. Flight Leaders will be assigned to a section of FLYT 1001 class (formerly FYE 1220) and support instructors and students in the class by serving as role models and mentors to help first-year students acclimate to college life. Additionally they will serve as a resource for FLYT 1001 instructors, and support initiatives through the Office of First and Second Year Experience, Eagle Experience Programming, and other programs designed to assist first year students with the transition to college.Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.Responsibilities Supports departmental programming initiatives Attends all class meetings and Flight Leader Training Lab Comes prepared to share in discussions on lecture materials Teaches a minimum of one class per semester Meets regularly with assigned faculty instructor Supports instruction of the course through communication, making referrals to campus resources, attendance tracking, grading, and mentorship of students Regularly shares information with students via Folio, email, and GroupMe - Attend and participate in Eagle Experience events as well as other first year programming that happens throughout the fall semester Supports students struggling to adjust to first-year academic and personal demandsAdditional assistance/activities may be requested per instructor throughout the semesterHosts office hoursSupports faculty instruction of the course (e.g. grading, communicating with students, etc.)Assists with cocurricular events and programmingMeets with FYSY staff as needed to support their role.Shift SpecificsUp to 10 hours per weekFlexible with schedule of availabilityAttends their assigned section of FLYT 1001, as well as their assigned Flight Leader Training LabRequired Qualifications Educational RequirementsMust be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.Preferred Qualifications Preferred ExperienceExperience as a mentor/tutor or in a peer leadership capacityPreferred EducationEarned a minimum grade of B in FYE 1220 or equivalentHave earned and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher Complete required 16 hours of trainingProposed Salary $14.00 per hourThis is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.Required Documents to Attach ResumeCover LetterUnofficial TranscriptSchedule of AvailabilityOptional Documents to Attach Two (2) Professional ReferencesKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities ABILITIESConsistently exhibit engaging customer serviceAbility to support various constituencies served by the UniversityProven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific positionKNOWLEDGEAdhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student successSKILLSEffective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skillsApply Before Date March 31, 2026Application review may begin as early as December 05, 2025.Contact Information For more information or questions about a job posting, please contact the Department of Human Resources by phone at (912) 478-6947 or by email at [email protected] technical support, please call the USG Service Desk at (877) 251.2644, or email [email protected] Core Values The University System of Georgia is comprised of our 26 institutions of higher education and learning as well as the System Office.
