Requisition:202500380STTitle:Student Employee- Campus Recreation- Intramural Sports Official (Work Study Available)Employee Class:Student EmployeeCollege Work Study Position:YesDepartment:Campus RecreationDivision:Division of Student AffairsHours per week:Up to 20 hr/weekHiring Rate:$10.00/hrNature & Purpose of Position:JOB TITLE: Intramural Official (Work Study Eligible)PAY RATE: $10.00 per hourSUPERVISORS: Assistant Directors of Intramural SportsJOB FUNCTION: Enforce the policy and rules of the Intramural Sports program during sporting contests, which includes officiating, daily facility checks, working with participants, and creating a fun, safe, and competitive environment.HOURS: Up to 20 hours per week. Flexible work schedules (morning, afternoon, and night shifts)DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:· Main point of contact and responsible for assisting up to 500 participants per shift.· Responsible for ensureing game quailty, by offciating various Intramural Sports.· Provide exceptional customer service to patrons by having strong communication and interacting with everyone in a respectful, cooperative manner.· Conduct pre-game captain’s meetings with players· Serve as a resource by providing accurate and current information regarding rulings and calls.· Assist Intramural Supervisors with facility operations that include equipment set up and tear down, cleaning, evacuation, and hourly participant reports.· Report to authority figures such as graduate assistants, supervisors, and professional staff.· Assist with other duties as assigned (may result in helping other departments within Campus Rec).POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Currently enrolled in 6 or more credit hours at Sam Houston State UniversitySuccessfully pass the State of Texas criminal background checkCompletion of SHSU student employee compliance training and any additional trainings required by the department and universityAbility to attend sport specific trainings (Remainging Fall Sports include: Volleyball, and Soccer)Ability to work various evenings Sunday – ThursdayPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:· Possess a passion for working with people and around sports· Be able to work in an active, crowded, and fast-paced environment· Must have an increased focus on being punctual, reliable, and dependable· Excellent communication skills and the able to work with a wide variety of personalities· Open to constructive feedback while also keeping a positive and upbeat attitude· Ability to handle conflict as well as confront patrons in a calm and professional mannerOpen Date:09/24/2025Contact Name & Title:Tresha Noel - Administrative AssistantContact Phone:936-294-1972Contact Email:[email protected] Statement:Sam Houston State University is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and Smoke/Drug-Free Workplace.
