Requisition:202500450STTitle:Student Employee -Office of the Dean - Criminal Justice- (McAllen, Texas) Criminal Justice Student WorkerEmployee Class:Student EmployeeCollege Work Study Position:YesDepartment:Office of the Dean - Criminal JusticeDivision:Division of Academic AffairsHours per week:20-28 hours per weekHiring Rate:$10.00 per hourNature & Purpose of Position:We are seeking a motivated and responsible part-time student worker to assist with various administrative and operational tasks, including classroom preparation, recruitment activities, and other duties as required. This position is ideal for a student looking to gain practical experience in a dynamic academic environment.Other Requirements for the Position:Key Responsibilities:1. Classroom Preparation:- Assist in setting up classrooms for lectures, seminars, and other academic events.- Organize and distribute materials such as handouts, textbooks, and equipment.- Ensure classroom technology (e.g., projectors, computers) is functioning properly.- Support instructors with any last-minute requests or adjustments.2. Recruitment Assistance:- Help organize and participate in recruitment events.- Distribute promotional materials and provide information to prospective students.- Assist in the coordination of virtual and in-person recruitment activities.- Maintain and update databases of prospective students and applicants.3. General Administrative Support:- Perform clerical tasks such as data entry, filing, and scheduling.- Assist with communication efforts, including drafting emails, making phone calls, and preparing presentations.- Support special projects and events as needed, providing logistical and operational assistance.- Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.Qualifications:- Currently enrolled as a student at SHSU.- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.- Availability to work 20-28 hours per week.Preferred Qualifications:- Previous experience in a similar role is a plus.- Familiarity with College of Criminal Justice or academic administration.Work Schedule:- Flexible schedule to accommodate academic commitments, with an expectation of pre-identified recruiting events.Open Date:01/01/2026Contact Name & Title:Dr. David Stender, Senior Director for Strategy & Innovation College of Criminal JusticeContact Phone:936-294-1655Contact Email:[email protected] Statement:Sam Houston State University is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and Smoke/Drug-Free Workplace.
