Job Title: Student Success Advisor - Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement Location: Tallahassee, FL Regular/Temporary: Regular Full/Part Time: Full-Time Job ID: 61454 Department Center for Academic Retention & EnhancementResponsibilities Focuses on student development and success for CARE students to include individual meeting outreach, and resource referrals.Provide individualized guidance related to academic success including general education requirements, major exploration, and graduation tracking. Interpret and communicate academic policies, procedures, and University requirements. Monitor academic progress and proactively engage students showing early signs of academic difficulty.Facilitate coaching conversations that promote student development and success. Use a strengths-based framework to support student development, confidence, and self-efficacy. Support students in navigating personal challenges that may affect persistence towards degree completion. Guide students through reflection exercises to articulate their “why,” define future career pathways, and plan for engagement in high impact practices and other enrichment opportunities.Maintain meeting notes, referral documentation and intervention history in the student success platform. Review and utilize GPA data, assessment responses, and other student success metrics to inform outreach and intervention. Collaborate with other colleagues including Engagement Specialists, Academic Guides, and Student Persistence Specialist to coordinate support aligned with the student’s needs.Continue to acquire knowledge of university policies andprocedures and actively participates in professional development, learning the best practices of developmental and appreciative advising, coaching practices, staff-student mentorship, and student development. Participates in initiatives established by The Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement, Undergraduate Studies, and Student Affairs.Participates in trainings necessary to perform duties of a college life coach. Continues to improve coaching skills by pinpointing key areas of growth and actively participates in professional development.Qualifications A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of University rules and regulations.Prior customer service experience and /or experience working with students in an educational setting.Ability to extract complex academic information from various sources and maintain confidentiality.Experience and/or working knowledge of student advising, counseling, or working one-on-one with people in a professional or academic setting.Creative problem-solving skills.Master’s degree is preferred.Computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Office and web-based applications.Ability to interpret and explain policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to students, parents, faculty, and staff.Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously with minimal to moderate supervision.Ability to deal with people in a calm, confident manner and with complete objectivity.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, supervisors, and interdepartmental personnel.Attention to detail with a high standard of integrity.Contact Info Dr. Sheila Labissiere - [email protected] Information One of the nation's elite research universities, Florida State University preserves, expands, and disseminates knowledge in the sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and professions, while embracing a philosophy of learning strongly rooted in the traditions of the liberal arts and critical thinking.
