A Sub Arc Welder (Submerged Arc Welder) sets up and operates automatic or semi-automatic equipment to weld heavy steel components, usually in flat or horizontal positions. They are responsible for reading blueprints, managing flux, and ensuring precise weld quality in manufacturing and industrial settings. Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup: Configure, align, and operate SAW equipment, including column and boom, tractor, or semi-automatic systems. Process Execution: Apply granular flux, feed electrode wire, and set voltage and amperage for welding thick steel, often on pressure vessels or structural components.
Monitoring and Control: Supervise the welding process for proper penetration and speed, ensuring high-quality results. Quality Inspection: Visually inspect welds and use gauges to ensure compliance with blueprints and WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), repairing defects like porosity as needed.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment to minimize downtime. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols regarding electrical hazards, fumes, and machinery to maintain a safe, clean work area. Key Qualifications Experience: Often requires 3+ years of experience in heavy industrial environments. Skills: Proficiency in blueprint reading, machine operation, and knowledge of WPS. Physical: Ability to work with heavy components, often using forklifts or crane
