Job Description
PURPOSE STATEMENTOn an on-call/substitute basis this position will perform related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSManage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.Provide classroom environment which promotes active learning.Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine including distributing and collecting supplies keeping attendance records lunchroom duty recess etc.Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.Adhere to all Walla Walla Public Schools board policies and procedures.Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSReports to the Building Administrator.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and ExperienceValid Washington State Teaching Certificate.Experience working with children preferred.Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge and skill in instructional principles methods and techniques.Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.Skill in classroom management student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students staff and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting.Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.Ability to communicate effectively using both English and Spanish to include reading writing and speaking.Licenses/Special RequirementsCompleted Employment Application/ Background Check.Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTOn call as neededCONDITIONSThe preceding list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.The Walla Walla School District does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex race creed religion color national origin age veteran or military status sexual orientation gender expression gender identity disability or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
