The primary purpose of this job is to assist the teacher with implementation of an educational program for special education students by providing instruction as assigned behavior management preparation of classroom materials and physical care for students.Provide instruction as assigned behavior management preparation of student(s) materials and primary care of students such as lifting toileting washing and appropriatemedical intervention and feeding under the direction of a knowledgeable staff.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSShortTerm Assignments-Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED)Ability and desire to work on a constant basis minimum 1 time a monthDesire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds.Ability to be flexible and adaptable as assignments may change on short notice and may require coverage in various classrooms or grade levels throughout the day.Long Term Paraeducator AssignmentsHigh school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED)and;Associates degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education;or72 quarter credits from an accredited institution of higher education:orPassing score on a Washington state recognized assessment (455).Desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds. Prepares and gives intervention and medication under the direction of a knowledgeable professional.Assists with implementation of behavior management techniques educational and vocational instruction and vocational placement programs.Assist student(s) with transport and/or accompany student(s) in transition activities.Instructs students in large or small groups or one-to-one as assigned by and under the direction of the special education teacher.Prepares materials for use by student teacher and parents; types hand draws reproduces and collates.Assists special education paras with students with hygiene and personal needs such as toileting lifting washing and feeding.Administers or assists special education teacher with administration of assessment instruments.Assists with maintaining class during special education teachers absence.Supervises students during lunch recess on and off the bus assembly and to other building locations.Assist student(s) with transport and/or accompany student(s) in transition activities.Assists with management of high-risk students that are severely emotionally disturbed and/or dangerous.May work with high-risk students who display significant behavior concerns as part of their disability who display significant behavior concerns as part of their disability.Remain confidential regarding student/school mattersWork as a professional in a collaborative teamWork as a professional n a collaborative team to support continued learning.Create a positive rapport with students and fellow staff member.Performs other duties asassigned as requested by the by the building administrator supervisor or teacher.The essential functions listed above are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time; use of fingers hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle and tolerance of loud noises and physically demanding situations are all required. The employee must lift and/or move 25 to 50 pounds and may assist students with greater weight when required to intervene in student safety issues or when transporting. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions temperature fluctuations fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties.
