Supervisor - Food Manufacturing

World Class Customer Service Uncompromising Quality Family Feel/Professionally Run QualiTech is growing, and we are seeking a highly motivated Supervisor to join our team at Kankakee IL. They o versee all aspects of the manufacturing of products at QTK and organize and monitor workflow on all production shifts. Develop cost effective processes and reduce waste while also increasing productivity and employee satisfaction. Troubleshoot processes and provide on-going training to all production personnel. Conduct inventory and double-checking of packing sheets. Ensure the safety of workers in the organization by ensuring safety policy compliance for the departments. Start up and shut down the boilers, both for food processing steam as well as for building heat. Respond to fire alarm panel reports. Guide and instruct maintenance on daily activities and preventative maintenance as well as immediate repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Supervisor is responsible for clearly communicating the production and packing schedule to all shifts. This includes participating in hiring employees to meet production goals. The supervisor coaches new employees and evaluates the performance of the workers. The supervisor implements continuous improvement activity to reduce feed and increase productivity. This individual will lead the team in applying Good Manufacturing Practices for safe food and feed. They will set the example by following processes and abiding by all safety policies. They are expected to ask questions when the process is unclear or results are in question.
  • Troubleshoot processes to maintain consistent in-spec production throughput.
  • Assist in maintaining staff by interviewing, selecting, orientating, and training
  • Provide ongoing training to all production personnel on each of the following:
    • Start up and shut down of Heat Treat/Toasting line
    • Production line operation
    • Production line quality control and troubleshooting
    • Production computer work (rate recording, packing recording, etc.)
    • Proper cleaning procedures both facility and equipment
    • Work Safety
    • Good Manufacturing Practices
    • Start up and shut down of Specialty Milling
  • Implement process improvements and assist in their development.
  • Ensure all Quality Requirements are being met on a daily basis, communicating any non-conformances to Management for review.
  • Drive manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, and disciplining employees; coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain workflow by monitoring steps of the processes; setting processing variables; observing equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Coordinate efforts with management to troubleshoot any product quality discrepancies and execute on suggested adjustments to ensure finished product quality.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all equipment and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data; investigating issues; identifying solutions; recommending action.
  • Assist with Incident Report Investigations, determine root cause and propose immediate and preventative corrective actions.
  • Maintain food safety culture in regards to food defense, quality and cGMPs for production and warehousing of products.
  • Oversee boiler house responsibilities - start up as needed, shut down as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the fire system, responding to calls as-needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education preferred
  • Five or more years of relevant manufacturing experience (food manufacturing preferred)
  • Three or more years of supervisory or leadership experience is preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude required
