We serve a socio-economically, racially and culturally diverse community of children because we believe that all children learn about different backgrounds and perspectives by living and working with people from those backgrounds and perspectives.ResponsibilitiesPartners effectively with the lead teacher to ensure children are growing and achieving at high levels through work tracking, progress monitoring and observation of studentsUnder the direction of the Lead Teacher, generates a powerful classroom culture where children have high expectations for themselves and for others, are self-motivated and self-directed, have pride in and care for themselves and their community, and value as well as love learningAssists students with activities in the classroom as neededSupport and coordinates classroom systems and procedures like, snack, body breaks and moreSupports and implements small and whole group lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with UMCS instructional guidelines as directed by the Lead TeacherAssists in establishing and maintaining a harmonious and safe classroom environmentBuilds strong relationships with young people and their familiesMaintain the physical environment daily (Makes sure that consumables used daily are stocked and maintained, dust shelves weekly, disinfects tables and chairs after food is served on them and at the end of the day, organizes materials on the shelves at the end of the day, etc.)Participates in weekly all school and department faculty and staff meetingsCollaborates with UMCS team members to improve own and others' instructional practices; shares best practicesWorks as a team member in team, level, and whole-school settings to create a strong professional learning communityMeets weekly with the Lead Teacher to set goals and planDocuments incidents and accidents and communicates with lead teacher, administration, and families as needed. Maintains accurate attendance records Is responsible for leading the classroom e.g. following the schedule, rules and emergency policies when the lead teacher is absentDemonstrate knowledge of, and support, Urban Montessori's mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behaviorPerform all other duties as necessary as instructed by lead teacher and supervisorRequirements:Education and/or ExperienceBachelor’s degree preferredAbility to speak and write in EnglishTwo years of successful experience working with students from diverse backgroundsCPR and first aid training preferredPhysical Requirements:Lift 40 lbs.Bend downSit on the floorParticipate in running, hopping and other movement activities with students
