Switchgear Technician at Southern Power Systems

Location: Various in the Gulf Coast Region Key Responsibilities/DutiesIdentify type of gear and apply PM and testing methods per NETA standards or customer:Medium Voltage Switchgear Low Voltage MCCsCircuit BreakersBattery SystemsShielded and Non-Shielded CableGrounding SystemsIsolate device and identify grounding points as necessary for testing Troubleshoot control circuits DC grounds electrical faultsInterpret testing results and provide recommendationsKnowledge Skills and Abilities3 or more years of prior industrial/substation electrical experience is preferredCDL or Chauffers license is preferred ability to effectively pull a trailerUtilize PPE and safety equipment as required per taskMust have reliable transportationMust be able to acquire a TWIC certificationAbility to read and interpret blue prints and schematic drawings Work various job locations throughout the weekParticipate in job safety analysis behavioral based safety observations and all other Safety Health and Environmental Processes. Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentAbility to work skillfully with both hands constantly independently safely lift and carry objects up to 5 feet long and weighing up to 20 pounds routinely 50 pounds occasionally climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffold kneel crouch crawl reach push pull twist finger grasp and feel on a constant and repetitive basis stand walk talk see (20/20 vision naturally or corrected) hear within normal range and perform repetitive motion activities. Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions including excessive heat and cold noise vibrations dust fumes oils wear a portable respirator.
