Tax Coordinator

The Indirect Tax group manages all sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts tax, and Canadian GST/HST for The Walt Disney Company and affiliates.  This group is responsible for managing all sales/use/property/gross receipts tax research and planning initiatives, property tax appeals, post capitalization reviews, tax audits, overall business unit support, and multiple special projects.  The opportunity provides continuous growth for motivated tax professionals.

Responsibilities of & Requirements for the Role:

Process tax returns for tax compliance matters:

  • Assist with managing Indirect Tax Compliance Calendar oversight, ensuring that indirect tax returns, notices, extensions, and amended returns are timely filed with government agencies

  • Organize and prioritize tax files for processing according to due dates and payment method (check or EFT)

  • Manage the approval process for returns, extensions, and payments.  This includes coordinating the approval process through Workfront, OLAF, and Docusign

  • Coordinate new vendor requests and extensions with appropriate parties.

  • Prepare and print certified mailing receipts and mailing envelopes

  • Assist with developing and maintaining various Key Process Indicators (KPIs) to be shared with management

Other Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate filling requests for files and other information from other off-site groups within the tax department

  • Assist in the preparation of sales and use tax exemption certificates

  • Coordinate with Cash and Banking when issues arise related to tax payments

  • Learn cross-functional responsibilities of other Tax Coordinators to provide back-up as needed

Other/Administrative

  • Perform general office administrative tasks such as onboarding new employees or contractors, administering various system access, and providing hardware support, etc.  

  • Coordinate requirements with Building Management

  • Coordinate office events, including planning, budget tracking, and communication

  • Provide notary services as requested

  • Prepare correspondence and decks, including proofreading and document review for grammatical soundness and consistency

  • Coordinate travel arrangements for individuals and groups

  • Update and maintain postage meter, order postage, printing, and mailing supplies

  • Travel to Post Office to deliver certified mailings for the tax department

  • Copy and scan documents

  • Reserve and set up rooms for presentations

  • Coordinate and schedule meetings in Outlook

Qualifications

  • At least one year of relevant experience

  • Prior para professional experience in a large corporate tax group or accounting firm

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with external and internal partners

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Self-starter that takes a hands-on approach

  • Well organized and detail-oriented. 

  • Project management skills

  • Alteryx, Tableau, Workfront, Vertex, SAP skills a plus

  • Able to efficiently coordinate the filing of large volumes of tax returns.  This includes processing the returns, printing and saving to an online repository, processing checks and EFT requests, and sending by certified mail.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a field similar to those listed or relevant work experience.
