Job Summary:The Tax Managing Director, Global Tax Outsourcing will be a senior member of the GTO team, responsible for building strong personal client relationships, directing all project services delivered, leading specific strategic focus, managing people and supporting the Partners with business development and practice management. They will also be responsible for managing risk at an operational level. Additionally, the GTO Managing Director is a critical part of the office’s / region’s Tax Services leadership team and in this capacity will act as source for guidance on international tax questions and issues and have a proven track record as a problem solver.Job Duties:Tax ConsultingDevelops, recommends and implements practical international tax consulting - ideas related to client situationsIdentifies and resolves complex taxation issues by applying multiple tax functional specialtiesCommunicates complex technical matters to clients and other appropriate audiences to ensure relevant issues are understood and resolved, as neededTax SpecializationBuilds and manages at a global strategic level, strong relationships with clients through all manner of communication inclusive of regular visits to client sites, and, as needed, to BDO regional offices/team sitesWorks with the team on timely and efficient establishment and maintenance of client account plans and ensures that action steps are implemented to achieve results in client satisfaction, retention and expansion of services or countriesConsistently manages time, budgets and resources for all projects ensuring delivery dates, identification and resolution of issues, adherence / mindfulness of project scope and the impacts of changes Acts as a client advocate and strategic resource for overall client issues in the areas of billing, legal, policy, country tax issues, payroll management operations, and systemsManages projects across all lines of business. Including but not limited to: financial projects, inter-country projects, etc. Continues to develop an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding international tax Manages international tax services provided to assigned clients, including assessment of appropriate pricing structure for servicesIdentifies opportunities for tax alerts in areas of specialty and collaborates with BDO Global and/or National Tax Office on drafting of those alertsMarketing and Business DevelopmentManages Requests for Proposals (RFP), for account renegotiations, including fee structure and presentationExhibits thought leadership in a specialized area within international taxRecognized as industry group go-to person in international taxAssists with rollout of major change initiativesWorks with Tax Services and International Tax Partners, Local Office Managing Partner and local and regional Business Development Managers to develop and execute an effective marketing planBuilds effective go-to-market strategies with Assurance PartnersResearchIdentifies trends, best practices, and opportunities for tax consulting, written analysis and recommendations for cost effective client solutionsIdentifies complex situations when research is necessary providing an outline of the issue(s) and the appropriate source of research to be conductedAnalyzes researched facts and the sources utilized prior to composing a detailed report of the research findingsTax ComplianceManages client engagementsConducts detailed review of international tax aspects of U.S. tax reporting and other client supplied data and identifies complex and advanced issues throughout the engagementLeverages compliance role to identify additional tax issues and opportunitiesDemonstrates overall client ownership and ensures the highest standards in othersProactively takes potentially valuable ideas to the client Acts as a collaborative client manager and applies a managed clients’ approach Advocates the implementation and use of consistent working practices and methodologies to ensure a consistent client experience with all global teamsActs as a client advocate and strategic resource for overall client issues in the areas of billing, legal, policy, country tax issues, tools and systemsWorks with BDO Partner to prepare year end client review and analysis as well as monthly reports and quarterly reviews as requiredDevelops innovative solutions to the commercial challenges of the clientCommunicates effectively to ensure client expectations are managed appropriatelyDevelops processes and procedures within the team and region which maximize productivity, ensure clear communication and efficiency and effect consistent service delivery Works with the CTS/ITS/Assurance and GTO teams on the execution plan for new accounts ensuring that communication bridges, policies and procedures and processes are in place and followedApplies standards, Firm policies and BDO Tax Quality Manual requirements Manages Risk & Compliance in line with BDO USA & Client policies. Ensures team compliance with BDO standards, client policy, monitors data accuracy and integrityReviews international aspects of tax provisions including coordination of BDO colleagues in non-U.S. jurisdictionsMaintains highest level of confidentiality and discretionUndertakes other tasks and special projects as requiredSupervisory Responsibilities:Supervises the day-to-day workload of GTO Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns on assigned engagements and reviews work product and ensures their technical developmentDelivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for GTO Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and InternsActs as mentor to GTO Managers, Senior Associates and Associates and Interns, as appropriateQualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelor’s degree, required; Focus in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, or Finance, preferredMST/MBT, preferredExperience:Ten (10) or more years of prior experience in corporate tax, international taxation, legal professional services or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree (LLM) program, requiredExperience in international tax, requiredNegotiation experience, requiredExperience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, requiredLicense/Certifications:CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferredSoftware:Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, preferredWorking experience with Smartsheet, preferredExperience utilizing BNA, CCH and/or other search engines, preferredLanguage:Proficiency in more than one language, preferredOther Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Excellent verbal and written communication skillsSuperior analytical and research skills including building models and analysis of financial and numerical dataStrong organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on detailsAbility to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environmentProven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously Capable of effective managing a team of professionals and delegating work assignments, as neededCapacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel Ability to encourage team environment on engagements and contribute to the professional development of assigned personnelExecutive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagementsAbility to successfully interact with professionals at all levelsAdvanced knowledge of sources of relevant information utilized in tax filings as well as the most widely-used filing forms and awareness of other less widely used tax formsAdvanced understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation and lawAdvanced knowledge and understanding of general calculations and cause / effect for taxable conditions on clients and the potential tax issuesIndividual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.National Range: $157,500 - $420,000Maryland Range: $157,500 - $420,000NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $157,500 - $420,000Washington DC Range: $157,500 - $420,000Join us at BDO, where you will find more than a career, you’ll find a place where your work is impactful, and you are valued for your individuality.
