Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAssistant Teacher/Teach Aide Educational Qualifications. Assistant teachers/teacher aides must have a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential reflective of the age group of children they are supporting. Alternatively, assistant teachers/teacher aides can also have qualifications equivalent to a CDA, which is currently 12 college credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, and/or early childhood special education.• Qualifications: Associates degree in Early Childhood or a minimum of a Child Development Certificate and 1 year of experience in a 5-star center.• Teaching Staff: Supervising children by sight and sound at all times. Teaching staff need to be able to always see and hear all infants and toddlers. All infants and toddlers should be easily seen (if not in the direct line of sight, then by looking up or slightly adjusting one’s position) by at least one member of the teaching staff. The exception is school-age children who will have privacy in the use of bathrooms.• Teaching staff supervises by positioning themselves to see as many children as possible.• Assist head teacher with both long- and short-range activities in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy.• Maintain children’s physical needs met (toiletry and diapering).• Maintain children’s faces and body clean.• Provide input for bi-annual assessment of children's development.• Maintain daily open communication with parents.• Participate in weekly meetings with your lead teacher to plan curriculum (during the class nap time or at other times when awake children are not present). The teaching team should review the progress and individual needs of each child as well as the whole group during planning time.• Write Incident and Character Reports.• Use the communication application to communicate with parents daily.• Maintain weekly child observation records.• Maintain confidentiality.• Report any suspect abuse to the supervisor.• Arrange a classroom environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy.• Maintain a safe and healthy environment.• Maintain cleaning and sanitizing checklist• Inspect and replace damaged or lost materials.• Attend staff meetings.• Help to keep all appropriate records such as records, attendance and timesheets.• Meet all applicable licensing regulations (including 24 hours requirement).• Maintain the Pediatric first-aid and CPR certification current.• Have the Pertussis Vaccine and a yearly flu shot.• Speak Spanish to the children.• Maintain a clean and organized classroom that includes the cleaning of tables, chairs and toys during nap time.• Maintain and complete NAEYC classroom portfolio• Meet all applicable NAEYC accreditation.• Have meetings between teachers and teacher’s assistants every two weeks. Document meeting minutes and actions required.• Perform and maintain documentation of classroom and individual (each child) observations every two weeks.• Inspect children’s book bags twice every week to prevent transporting pests from school to home or vice versa.• Maintain a positive environment with the parents, children and employees of La Esperanza.• Support and carry-on recommendations of early childhood professionals.• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, drive, sit for long periods of time and use computer equipment and cell phones. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift 40 pounds.• Other duties as assigned.
