Job OverviewThe Detention Center Teacher supports instruction (in collaboration) with other instructors assesses and evaluates student achievement and modifies instructional activities as required.Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; work may differ and other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate.Continually assesses student achievement and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposesPlans and implements appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities including determination of appropriate kind and level of materials appropriate learning experiences allotted learning time to maximize student achievement and utilization a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learningPersonalizes instruction based upon the needs of students and manages time to maximize student learning opportunitiesAssesses student growth as related to educational goals objectives and outcomesAdheres to LCPS Assessment and Grading policy and guidelinesManages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure that the environment is conducive to the learning process and assists and participates in management of student behavior in all parts of the ProgramCoordinates instructional activities with other professional staff both school and non-school based as required to maximize learning opportunitiesParticipates in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings as required or assignedContinually communicates with students on instructional expectations to keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectationsCommunicates with parents through conferencesCollaborates with other professionals (school counselors home school Special Education Designee librarians etc.) to carry out instructional or related activities as neededQualificationsBelow are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable. Education Bachelors Degree from an accredited University or College Experience Successful experience as a teacher Licenses and Certifications Holds or eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License with an endorsement in subject area Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesPossesses leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students parents teachers administrators and communityComprehensive knowledge of State and Federal Regulations governing students with disabilitiesKnowledge and experience with school-wide systems to support inclusive practicesKnowledge and experience implementing and analyzing the effectiveness of evidence-based behavior interventions and supportsThe ability to travel occasionally for training purposes Additional Requirements:Endorsement in one or more areas of Science requiredEndorsement in Special Education preferredPhysical RequirementsThe following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this job:While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly talking expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately loudly or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time.
