Located in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge, HMMA is transitioning into a maritime-focused academy that merges rigorous academics with hands-on, real-world learning. We are committed to preparing students for success in college, careers, and citizenship through relevant, innovative, and culturally responsive instruction.Position SummaryWe are seeking a passionate and student-centered 9th Grade Physical Science Teacher to join our instructional team. The ideal candidate brings strong content knowledge, a commitment to equity, and a desire to inspire students by connecting scientific concepts to maritime and real-world applications.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide dynamic and standards-based Physical Science instruction for 9th grade studentsIntegrate inquiry-based learning, lab activities, and digital tools to support critical thinking and student engagementConnect science content to maritime, environmental, and community-based applicationsCreate and maintain a structured, positive classroom environment that fosters academic growth and personal responsibilityUse formative and summative data to differentiate instruction and support all learnersCollaborate with colleagues to support school-wide goals, interdisciplinary initiatives, and community partnershipsMaintain strong communication with families to support student successAdditional ExpectationsAll HMMA teachers are expected to sponsor one club or Enrichment during scheduled hours as part of their role (not eligible for additional pay)As a Verizon Innovative Learning School, all teachers must demonstrate a commitment to integrating technology and promoting digital equityActive participation in professional learning communities and ongoing growth as an educator is requiredQualificationsBachelor's degree in Science, Physical Science, Education, or related field (required)High school teaching experience preferredStrong classroom management, planning, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to integrate technology and culturally responsive practicesGrowth mindset and commitment to serving all students equitablyWhy Teach at HMMA?Join a reimagined high school with a maritime career focus and commitment to innovationCollaborate with passionate educators in a supportive, mission-driven environmentAccess cutting-edge professional development through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) programPlay a vital role in closing opportunity gaps and expanding access to STEM and career-based education
