Lower Elementary Montessori Teacher (Grades 1-3)

Seeking a passionate teacher with a deep respect and love for all children and a firm belief in the potential of every child to thrive.

Mixed-aged class of First, Second, and Third Grade students
Starting at $32,000 annual salary (prorated for mid-year start)
Full Time, School Year Position: M-F, 8:15 am - 3:30 pm

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification:
PA Certified Teacher (K-6, PK-4, or Elementary PA Private Academic)
Montessori certified or trained (MACTE-accredited program), or commitment to becoming Montessori certified or trained (with tuition sponsorship)
Clearances: Criminal background clearances and staff health assessment required

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lower Elementary Teacher will provide an organized, safe, and nurturing environment for the children that encourages their social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. The teacher will plan and implement a mix of individual, small group, and whole group instruction to ensure an individualized and rigorous educational program for each student, in alignment with the Montessori philosophy and the curriculum of Montessori Academy of Chambersburg.

Design and maintain a classroom environment which responds to children's individual developmental levels, physical and emotional needs, current interests, and the academic curriculum.
Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum, which reflects the Montessori approach to education and the Montessori Academy of Chambersburg's written curriculum, which will include observations and assessments of individual children.
Support individuality, independence, interdependence, and the student's ability to make choices. Encourage creative expression.
Demonstrate respect for diversity by providing anti-bias, non-sexist language, images, and experiences.
Interact frequently, affectionately, and respectfully, in a calm and courteous manner with children. Engage and communicate constructively with individual children during work, activities, and routines.
Practice positive discipline techniques in guiding children's behavior.
Supervise children at all times. Maintain and follow all safety and health rules. Keep the environment and equipment safe, clean and attractive.
Communicate effectively and promptly with parents, colleagues, and administration.
