December 10 2025CERTIFICATED VACANCY2025/2026 School YearSpecial Services/Skyline Elementary SchoolSpecial Education Teacher - Resource Room.6 FTE / Leave ReplacementHours/Schedule: M-F 8:30AM -1:00PM*As with all Special Services postings duties hours and location are dependent upon program and student needs.JOB SUMMARY:Educate students by planning developing and delivering a course of study according to student learning objectives district/building curriculum guidelines and student assessment dataESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Implement the educational program comprehensive relates services and accommodations and modifications as outlined in the students Individual Education Plan (IEP)Participate in the development and review of IEPs including writing goals and objectives for identified needs using standardized and classroom based assessment dataMonitor the implementation of IEPs including school-wide implementation of modification/accommodations and progress toward goals and objectivesAct as case manager for the IEP partnering with parents and working closely with the building teamUtilize para educators as part of a team by providing training management direction and supportPerform teaching responsibilities and accountability procedures as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Special Education LawDevelop and implement effective lesson plans and instructional materials that allow students to utilize and practice higher level thinking skillsProvide for large and small group and individualized instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each studentEstablish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activitiesProvide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in learning activities and instruct and monitor students in the use of suchObserve and evaluate students performance and development and provide appropriate feedback on work utilizing methods such as assigning and grading class work homework tests and assignmentsContinually assess student progress and implement effective lessons to meet individual student learning needs as determined by student assessment dataProvide opportunities for students to self reflect and track progress toward learning goalsMaintain accurate and complete records of students progress and developmentUpdate all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws district policies and school regulationsProvide a safe positive and effective environment that reflects and facilitates learningManage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the policies and procedures of the school building and the districtWork as an effective member of the grade level/course team to evaluate and improve student learningCommunicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progress in a timely and professional mannerSelf-reflect and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional performance to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and adjust accordingly to reach maximum effectivenessQUALIFICATIONS:Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement/s as required by law and regulation or ability to obtain said Washington State teaching certificate prior to first contracted day.ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills with parents colleagues and administrationDemonstrates ability to challenge students academically to promote highest level of learningDemonstrates comprehensive content knowledge as it relates to state standardsDemonstrates knowledge and experience in various forms of assessment including student self-assessment formative assessment portfolios and anecdotal recordsDemonstrates ability to make data-driven instructional decisionsExhibits the ability to build a positive learning environment including modeling respect and honoring the dignity of all students staff and parentsDemonstrates effective classroom management procedures that provide for large and small groups and individuals in an environment conducive to learningDemonstrates ability to develop rapport with studentsDemonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including communicating student progressDemonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with a team contributing in a positive wayExhibits a commitment to on-going professional learning including demonstrating the ability to develop professionally in areas of the school and district focusDemonstrates knowledge and application of current technology with a multimedia approach to instruction and management of instructionDESIRED CRITERIA:Has training or experience with the following; Balanced Literacy Modifying Curriculum Social/Adaptive Skills Training Writing Social Stories Right Response Crisis Cycle Six Traits and Appropriate Assessments (ie. MSP QRI Running Records and Dibels)Ability to determine and design interventions using a multi-tiered approachUnderstanding of Title School and underserved studentsExperience with PBISTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT and Salary:As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Mead Education Association (MEA) and Policies and Procedures of Mead School District. Placement is defined within the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and is generally based upon a combination of Education and Experience. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).Each employee shall accumulate twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full term shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance Each employee shall earn five (5) annual leave days per year. Employees less than 1.0 FTE will receive a prorated share of annual leave based on their percentage of FTE.Employees anticipated to work more than 630 hours per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) Standard benefits include Medical Dental Vision Life Insurance and Long-Term Disability.
