Technical Support Engineer I Department Promotional Sheriff at Kern County

Position InformationThis is aDepartment Promotional examinationopen only to current eligible employees of the Kern County Sheriffs Officewho have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.Examinations:Written Exam (Weight 100%): Written examination will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicants knowledge ofthe procedures and techniques used in the installation configuration support troubleshooting and repair of applicable operating systems server and storage related equipment software applications other IT hardware and peripherals; network and security concepts; basic network administration; Directory Services such as Active Directory; general principles of office automation and computer systems analysis; techniques to evaluate customers needs and requirements and identify possible business solutions. Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date/time/location without exception.The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant a written examination.Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:Level I:Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree including 15 semester (25 quarter) units in computer science or management information systemsANDone (1) year of paid experience in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support troubleshooting and resolution of network problems managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organization;ORCompletion of (60) semester (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in computer science or management information systemsANDthree (3) years of paid experience one (1) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support troubleshooting and resolution of network problems managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organizationORCompletion of an accredited trade or vocational school training program in computer repair computer science or information systemsANDthree (3) years paid experience one (1) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support troubleshooting and resolution of network problems managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organizationORTwo (2) years of experience as a Technical Support Specialist III in the Kern County classification systems.ORFive (5) years of experience three (3) of which must have been in a complex IT environment utilizing principles and techniques which include system support troubleshooting and resolution of network problems managing or coordinating the data processing operations for a department or organizationApplicants must possess the physical capacity to perform all essential tasks.A valid Class C California Drivers License is required at the time of appointment.***Applicants qualifying based upon education must attach a copy of their transcripts to this application.
