Tool And Die Maker Precision Machining & Die Repair
Location: Franklin Park, IL
Job Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time, 5 am - 1 pm (with OT) or 6 am - 2 pm
Compensation: $33.56/hr (Toolmaker B) or $36.83 (Toolmaker A)
Job Summary
Are you an experienced Tool and Die Maker looking for a stable, long-term career with a premier manufacturer? We are seeking a skilled Tooling Technician to plan, construct, and repair a wide variety of high-precision tools, jigs, and fixtures. This role combines manual machining expertise with CNC machine operations to support our production of complex prototypes and special parts.
Key Responsibilities
- Precision Tooling: Plan, layout, and sequence machining operations to construct and repair complex progressive dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machine tools (Lathes, Mills, EDM, and Surface Grinders) to maintain tolerances as tight as +/-.0005.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair tooling issues, perform tool tryouts, and recommend modifications for efficiency.
- Bench Work: Conduct heat treating, drawing, tempering, and detailed bench work including filing, lapping, fitting, and assembly.
- Collaboration: Work alongside the Engineering Department to refine engineering models, mark up blueprints, and develop prototypes from sketches.
- Documentation: Utilize CAM software and read complex blueprints/GD&T to ensure accuracy.
- Mentorship: Assist in training and instructing lower-level Tool Makers.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Manual Machining and Tool & Die Making.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in manual milling (boring, drilling, tapping) and manual lathes (turning, threading).
- Precision Measurement: Expert use of calipers, micrometers, height gauges, video microscopes, and optical comparators.
- Math Skills: Strong foundation in blueprint reading and shop trigonometry.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (Journeyman card preferred but not required).
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Wire EDM setup and programming.
- Familiarity with Progressive Dies and high-speed stamping.
- Familiarity in CNC programming and operation.

Job Type & Location: This is a Permanent position based out of Franklin Park, IL.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $69804.00 - $76606.00/yr. After 90 days, 5 vacation days - one year they get to 10 + 3 sick days + 1 floating holiday and it goes up with tenure. Strong union benefits.
Workplace Type: This is a fully onsite position in Franklin Park, IL.
