Operate conventional and CNC machine tools including lathes mills grinders and EDMs. Interpret complex engineering blueprints CAD models and specifications. Perform precision measurements and quality checks using specialized metrology equipment. Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling malfunctions implementing effective repair solutions. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tool performance and manufacturing processes. Select and work with a variety of materials including tool steels carbides and alloys. Recommended Qualifications Completion of a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent practical experience (e.g. 5 years). Proficiency in operating and setting up a variety of manual and CNC machine tools including lathes mills grinders and EDM. Strong ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints technical drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Expertise in using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers calipers and height gauges for quality inspection. Solid understanding of metallurgy heat treatment processes and the selection of appropriate tooling materials. Demonstrated problem-solving skills for diagnosing and repairing tooling issues ensuring high-quality and efficient production. Bonus Qualifications Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g. SolidWorks Mastercam). Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g. CMM optical comparators). Basic welding or fabrication skills for tool repair and modification. Knowledge of various material heat treatment processes.
