We use our own locomotives and employees to safely move railcars within industrial manufacturing and production plants.In addition to railcar switching we provide transloading railcar loading/unloading track maintenance inspection repair and more.Railserve is a Marmon Group company part of Berkshire Hathaway.The RoleThis position supports rail and transloading operations at our Ross ND site. The role involves hands-on work outdoors in all weather conditions loading/unloading railcars operating equipment and contributing to safe and efficient railcar movement.We are open to training candidates of all experience levels.Once trained employees have opportunities to travel to other Railserve locations within the region to support operations.What youd be doing:Inspects locomotive before operating to verify specified fuel sand water and other supplies.Receives starting signal from foreman or helper and moves controls such as throttle and airbrakes to move locomotive.Interprets train orders train signals and rules and regulations to operate locomotive following safety regulations operating procedures and switching schedule.Assists crew leader in training new employees.Observes track to detect obstructions.Prepares reports to explain accidents unscheduled stops or delays.Lubricates moving parts of locomotive.Handle train equipment in a safe manner using independent or automatic brakes.Operation of hand or ground throw switches derails gates etc.Control movement of equipment by radio hands and lantern.Apply and release hand brakes to secure or move equipment.Handling air hoses wheel chocks coupling and uncoupling of rail cars.Must wear required personal protective equipment.Other duties as assigned.Who Were Looking ForEducation/ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredMilitary experience helpfulAll experience levels welcome training providedKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesDependable and punctual with reliable transportationAbility to work independently and as part of a teamStrong communication and active listening skillsComfortable working outdoors in all weather conditionsAbility to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environmentPhysical DemandsFrequent standing and walkingOccasional sitting climbing balancing kneeling or crawlingAbility to lift and move heavy itemsFull range of vision required: distance color peripheral depth perception focusEnvironmental ConditionsIndustrial outdoor environmentModerate to heavy physical activityUse of hand tools and power toolsMust follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE#LI-DNIFollowing receipt of a conditional offer of employment candidates will be required to complete additional job-related screening processes as permitted or required by applicable law.We are an equal opportunity employer and all applicants will be considered for employment without attention to their membership in any protected class.
