Butler County Schools Transportation Supervisor
Job Description
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Possess an Alabama Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Bus driver certification by Alabama SDE.
Pass state and federal drug and alcohol screening.
Pass Alabama SDE background check.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, policies, and procedures relating to the transportation of public school students. Ability to prepare written communications. Skills and abilities to work with the general public, news media, students, parents, school administrators, and county staff. Strong interpersonal skills.

Assistant Superintendent
Job Goal:
To provide a transportation system that is safe, efficient, and economical for all eligible public school students.
Supervises:
Assigned Personnel
Performance Responsibilities:
* (1) Develop and implement a system-wide transportation program to meet requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
* (2) Manage and direct the transportation function for the public school system.
* (3) Project needs for additional or replacement bases.
* (4) Plan in-service training programs for school bus drivers.
* (5) Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for school buses and other automotive vehicles within the Transportation Department and in the system.
* (6) Make recommendations to Supervisor for appointments and personnel changes (promotions, transfers, etc.).
* (7) Work closely with school personnel to schedule services and to solve operational and student discipline problems.
* (8) Supervise the preparation of records and reports.
* (9) Represent the Transportation Department in recommendations for policies and procedures to improve the economy, efficiency, and quality of operations and services.
*(10) Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
*(11) Keep supervisor informed of departmental functions and concerns, potential problems or unusual events.
*(12) Keep abreast of laws, policies and rules, as well as new trends and directions in school transportation.
*(13) Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities in assigned areas.
*(14) Attend training sessions, conferences and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues.
*(15) Represent the system in a positive and professional manner.
*(16) Develop or assist in developing the department budget and monitor its implementation as required.
*(17) Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
*(18) Ensure adherence to safety standards.
*(19) Assist in implementing the system's goals and strategic commitment.
*(20) Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services and evaluation of services provided.
*(21) Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action.
*(22) Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment and facilitate task accomplishment.
*(23) May be required to work beyond the 40-hour work week.
(24) Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
Physical Requirements:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the System's approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the System.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
