Category:Academic StaffEmployment Type:Terminal (Fixed Term)Job Profile:Retention SpecialistJob Duties:Maintain regular contact with a caseload of TRIO SSS ParticipantsAssesses and collaborates on the development of an Individual Student Success plan with Participants and regularly monitors progress towards goal completion.Develops and implements Participant programming for required and permissible services in order to meet the standardized objectives of the TRIO SSS project.Facilitates workshops in multi-modalities on a range of topics related to academic success skills financial literacy career development and goal setting.Instructs TRIO SSS project 1 credit courses: TRDIS 120 Strategies for Academic Success and TRDIS 121 Strategies for Successful Career DevelopmentProvides support and documentation to maintain project compliance with appropriate federal regulations and institutional policies and procedures.Enters SSS Participant data and records/services in TRIO SSS project database to meet U.S. Department of Education reporting requirements.Assist in the development and execution of Summer Early Bridge program for new students.Proactively collaborate with College-wide departments faculty tutors and academic support staff to advocate identify and meet the academic needs of TRIO Participants.Key Job Responsibilities:Makes recommendations to improve retention effortsAdvocates for campus-wide retention initiativesProvides referrals to appropriate campus resourcesMaintains accurate student records including contact logs case notes and filesAdheres to the established plan of operation curriculum process policy program procedures and all other related federal regulationsPartners with academic advisors faculty staff students and administrative personnel to track analytics and help identify risk indicators to support data-informed retention and transfer strategiesCommunicates assists and monitors progress of studentsMonitors plans and facilitates student academic progress student programming and success plansMay assist with Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion and/or provide financial aid/scholarship informationDepartment:UW-Stouts TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) programprovidessupplemental academic support and services for its 550 student participants.The departmentstrives to increase the retention and graduation rates of first-generation students students who meet federal low-income criteria and students with disabilities.The department is funded by three federal TRIO grants: Student Support Services Student Support Services: Disability and Student Support Services: STEM.Funding for this position is contingent upon federal funding.Compensation:Competitive salarycommensuratewith related fields from an accredited college/university.Minimum of (2) years ofappropriateand relevant professional experience working with a TRIO federal program or similar related program/projectMinimum of (2) years of experience advising andassistingStudent Support Services eligible students with postsecondary courseselection academic advising financial aid information and processes economic literacy career development/obtainment and graduate school admissionsProfessional/Personal experience overcoming barrierssimilar toproject participantsFormal training and/or work experience in programming that promotes the annual retention persistence academicstandingand graduation rates of Student Support Services eligible studentsFormal training and or work experience in effective student counseling or advising specifically in the areas of guiding Student Support Services eligible students academic and non-academic goal setting and skill acquisitionKnowledge of academic advising career financial aid economic literacyactivitiesand related services for Student Support Services eligible studentsAbility to effectivelymaintaina caseload of project participants
